How a pay raise is calculated
- New pay:
current pay × (1 + raise percentage) - Raise percentage from new pay:
(new pay ÷ current pay − 1) × 100 - Inflation-adjusted change:
(new pay ÷ current pay) ÷ (1 + inflation) − 1
The inflation comparison estimates the change in purchasing power, not future prices or personal living costs. Actual take-home pay can change differently because of taxes, benefits, bonuses, overtime and payroll rules.
